Viking Age Oval Fibula

The Viking Age Oval Fibula is a well-known style of female Viking-age clothing decoration, also referred to as a turtle brooch. It was used to fasten a hangerok, a Scandinavian apron-like garment worn over a dress. Classified as Type 51 in Petersen’s typology, it dates to the mid-10th century. The holes on the bulges and smooth areas may have been used for holding gemstones. Dimensions: approximately L4.92 x W3.54 x H1.89 inches.
